미련/배 중진

 

형형색색의 물감을 가지고

가을이 왔는데도

여름은 떠날 생각을 하지 않고

눈치 보느라 땀을 삐질삐질 흘리며

갈 길을 잊은 듯

 

올 때는 제 할 일만을 생각하며

무성하게 다 마치면

시원하게 선뜻 갈 길을 가겠다고 했지만

 

막상 가려니 마음이 내키지 않고

생각지도 못한 정도 쌓이고

 

두고 가려는 심정

남들은 관심도 두지 않는 참외밭의 끝물에 뛰어들어 

노란 참외를 기다리는 안타까운 철부지 동심이리라

 

모든 것엔 때가 있는 것이 아니겠는가

길이 있는 것이 아니겠는가

 

그렇다고 촛불을 들 수는 없잖은가

 

/땀을 삐질삐질 흘리며
땀을 삘 삘 흘리며

1780: Benedict Arnold’s treason is exposed

Once regarded as the hero of the American Revolutionary War, Arnold, a general at the time,
defected to the British Army in lieu of large sums of money and a higher position. His chief
intermediary was British Major John André, whom he met on Sept. 21, 1780, to hold secret
talks about surrendering his command at West Point. When André was captured on Sept. 23,
Arnold’s plot was foiled, and he was dubbed a traitor.

1806: Lewis and Clark return to St. Louis

American explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark return to St. Louis more than two years
after setting out for the Pacific Northwest.

1846: Planet Neptune discovered

The existence of Neptune is mathematically predicted by French mathematician Urbain Le Verrier (pictured),
who passed on his findings to German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle. The planet was formally
discovered by Galle and his assistant the same night at the observatory in Berlin, Germany.

1911: First official airmail delivery is made in the US

Aviator Earle Ovington, who served as a lab assistant to Thomas Edison, pilots the first airmail flight.
He flew a Blériot XI, delivering a sack of mail from Garden City to Mineola in New York.

1939: Sigmund Freud dies

The Austrian neurologist dies of cancer at the age of 83 in Hampstead, London. He was known as the
founder of psychoanalysis — a clinical treatment for psychopathology through dialogue between a patient
and a psychoanalyst.

1949: First atomic explosion by the U.S.S.R. announced

President Harry S. Truman informs the American citizens that the Soviets have exploded a nuclear bomb.

1952: Rocky Marciano is world heavyweight champion

The legendary boxer (R) knocks out reigning champion Jersey Joe Walcott in the 13th round to claim
the title he went on to defend six times. Marciano retired undefeated, knocking out Archie Moore in
his final fight in September 1955.

1952: Nixon's Checkers Speech

Sen. Richard M. Nixon appears on television from Los Angeles refuting allegations against him
of improper campaign fundraising in what became known as the 'Checkers' speech.

1957: Mob protests Little Rock Central desegregation

Nine African-American students who enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas
are forced to withdraw because of a white mob outside.

1962: The New York Philharmonic Hall opens

New York's Philharmonic Hall (later renamed Avery Fisher Hall) formally opens as the first unit
of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

2000: Steve Redgrave creates Olympics history

With gold at the Sydney Olympic Games, the British rower creates history by becoming the first in his sport
to win gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games — 1984 to 2000. He was 38 years old when he
completed the feat. He also won nine world championship gold medals and three Commonwealth Games
golds in categories such as coxless pair and coxed four.

2008: Shooting at Finland school

Ten people are killed at Kauhajoki School of Hospitality, when a gunman named Matti Juhani Saari opens fire
at students. Saari also shot himself and died at the hospital. A day before the tragic incident took place,
police had called in the shooter for questioning after he posted shooting videos on YouTube.
However, he was let go since he had a license for his gun.
