낙엽/배 중진

 

무슨 사연이 있어

낙엽은 저렇게 수북이 쌓이나

 

말 못 할 사정이 있어

갈바람에도 허망하게 날아가는 것일까 

 

머뭇머뭇 말을 걸고 싶어도 전할 수 없는 안타까운 심정

쭈뼛쭈뼛 듣고 싶어도 들리지 않는 하소연

 

오랜 기다림에 지치고

속상한 마음에 변한 색깔이여

 

슬픔에 아무렇게나 떨어져

추한 모습이라 더욱더 안쓰러워라

1620: The Mayflower Compact is signed

41 pilgrims signed the Compact aboard the Mayflower when they landed in what is now Provincetown Harbor
near Cape Cod. The Compact was called so for its 'just and equal laws.'

1778: Cherry Valley massacre

Loyalists and Seneca Indian forces attacked a fort and village in eastern New York during the American
Revolutionary War. More than 40 civilians and soldiers were killed. It was known as Cherry Valley Massacre.

1831: Nat Turner is executed

The slave revolt leader was caught and executed in Jerusalem, Virginia. His slave rebellion known as
‘Southampton Insurrection’ in Southampton County was the largest known revolt of its kind,
killing more than 60 people where at least 50 were white.

1889: Washington becomes the 42nd state

President Benjamin Harrison signed the bill admitting the State of Washington to the United States of America,
following the passage of the Enabling Act of 1889 by the United States Congress in Feb. 1889.

1918: World War I ends

The defeated German Empire signed an armistice with Allied leaders, which brought an end to the
catastrophic four-year-long conflict. The German move came a few days after their biggest allies,
the Austro-Hungarian empire, agreed to an armistice itself.

1921: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated

The Tomb of Unknown Soldier located in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia was dedicated to the
deceased U.S. service members, whose remains have not been identified, in a ceremony presided over
by President Warren G. Harding.

1966: End of NASA's Gemini program

U.S. launched Gemini 12 for a four-day mission with astronauts Jim Lovell and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin aboard;
it was the 10th and final flight of NASA’s Gemini program. Launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida, the craft
orbited Earth 59 times before returning on Nov. 15.

1972: US Army turns over Long Binh base to Vietnamese forces

The U.S. Army turned over its base at Long Binh to the South Vietnamese,
symbolizing the end of direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War.

1983: Reagan addresses Japanese legislature

Ronald Reagan became the first president of the U.S. to address the Japanese legislature in Tokyo,
called Diet. In his speech, he pledged to work on controlling and eliminating the nuclear weapons.

2000: Cable car blaze in Austria claims 170 lives

While passing through the Kitzsteinhorn mountain tunnel in the Alps, a cable car caught fire, resulting in
the death of at least 155 people. Investigations later revealed that the fire was caused when a space
heater in the driver’s cabin overheated hydraulic oil in a pipe and ignited a plastic seat.

2004: Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat dies

The first president of Palestinian National Authority (interim self-government body established in 1994)
passed away at the age of 75 from a hemorrhagic stroke. He served as the chairman of the armed outfit,
Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), from 1969 to 2004.

2012: Myanmar hit by 6.8 magnitude earthquake

Myanmar, also known as Burma, was hit by a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake killing 12 people.
It caused a heavy infrastructure damage.
