Anthropoid is a 2016 UK-French-Czech historical thriller film directed by Sean Ellis, from a screenplay by Ellis and Anthony Frewin. Starring Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan, Harry Lloyd, Toby Jones, Charlotte Le Bon, and Bill Milner, it tells the World War II story of Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by Czechoslovak exile soldiers on 27 May 1942.
The film had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on 1 July 2016. It will be released in the United States on 12 August 2016 by Bleecker Street.[2]
Plot[edit]
Anthropoid is based on the true story of “Operation Anthropoid,” the code name for the Czechoslovakian operatives’ mission to assassinate SS general Reinhard Heydrich.
Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution, was the Third Reich’s third in command behind Hitler and Himmler and the leader of Nazi forces in German–occupied Czechoslovakia. The film follows two soldiers from the Czechoslovakian army-in-exile, Jozef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), who are parachuted into their occupied homeland in December 1941. With limited intelligence and little equipment in a city under lock down, they must find a way to assassinate Heydrich, an operation that would change the face of Europe.

Production[edit]
In March 2015, Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy had been cast in the film, with Sean Ellis directing from a screenplay written by him and Anthony Frewin.[3] In May 2015, LD Entertainment boarded the film, announcing the casting of Charlotte Le Bon.[4]
Release[edit]
In July 2015, the first image of Dornan and Murphy was released.[5] In May 2016, Bleecker Street acquired U.S distribution rights to the film.[6] In June 2016, the first trailer was released.[7] The film will have its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on July 1, 2016, as the opening night film.[8] It is scheduled to open in the United States on August 12, 2016.[9]
